Fear is natural. Courage is a decision.
Courage doesn’t eliminate fear: it only subordinates it to our will. It is what gives wings to what’s best in us. [inspired by my fellow traveller from the Communist world]
Truth - and courage - will prove our saving grace. Truth is ours to discover, and we are doing that every day. Courage however, is a different and perhaps tougher challenge.
Fear is the natural reaction to risk and uncertainty. We are all hardwired to experience it: it crops up all by itself and at times, it takes control. This is normal, it’s what keeps us safe from danger. But that’s about all it does.
It can also keep us in a humdrum, sterile existence… or something worse. Fear can make us vulnerable to unintended risks in not taking action when we should… It can induce us to acquiesce and comply when we know we should not.
Courage is a decision
Fear is not the opposite of courage. It is, as my friend Charles Kovess is fond of saying, the opposite of love. It is how we deprive ourselves of the magic life can offer. Courage is the decision to overrule fear. It arises out of the inner strength we muster when we assert our will to venture and act in spite of fear.
Courage doesn’t eliminate fear: it only subordinates it to our will. It is what gives wings to what’s best in us. In that, courage - like truth - has the power to set us free.
“…On overcoming fear”
In today’s Substack, my fellow traveller from the Communist world, Tessa Lena dedicated her beautiful prose to this magical ingredient of life. It is a thoroughly inspiring read on being born in this world dignified, dealing with total injustice, on finding a reliable source of love without or within… I could not recommend Tessa’s Substack highly enough; this short article is a good start.

Yes. No Fear! Alex, You mentioned a few days ago the *Zerohedge Principle* on a podcast i.e. "None of Us are gonna get-out-of-here-alive"; Yes, the *Death Moment*". There are no hedges, as You stated correctly, My 'naked hedgie'. I've been there: The top surgeons at Karolinska Institue told Me later that I mathematically had a 10%-survival chance upon arrival in October 1982. Then, the stopped my heart, chilled-down my body and used the same anethesia-type that is used by the indigenious tribes in Amazon when using 'blow darts' with 100%-paralysation. If I remember correctly, it was a 8-10 hour operation, my Heart was stopped for ca. 4-hours. The neurosurgeon T.R. remarked, that..."I spoke to them" when I was *not conscious*; somehow *My Soul/Spirit* spoke to them when it wasn't possible. Anyway, I can assure You-All, We have a Divinity unmatched. Yeah. No Fear. Why? WE are here for a reason. I'm a proud father & Grandfather. "Courage is a decision"; Be Brave. The Future Generations are depending on Us, that's why(?). Regards Alex and ALL. ;)
Thank you for your work Alex. I found you on the Mel K show and share you with everyone I know.
I find your perspective to be a barometer of reason unadulterated by ideology or Dogma.
10 mins ago I text a group of patriotic friends and had this to say about courage when juxtaposing it to the unfortunate cowardice articulated in Pastor Martin Niemolles pome "First they Came."
I felt this would be an appropriate place to share my take.
"Take courage, brothers and sisters, for without its practice, we render ourselves virtueless and thereby subject to the will of Darkness."
