Is something catastrophically bad about to go down today?
It's 5 July 2023: are we on the precipice of nuclear Armageddon?
For days now, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has been warning the world that the Russians, in their desperation, are preparing to blow up the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Apparently, that's today. Late last night, Zelensky Tweeted that,
Now we have information from our intelligence that the Russian military has placed objects resembling explosives on the roof of several power units of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Perhaps to simulate an attack on the plant. Perhaps they have some other scenario. But in any case, the world sees – can't but see – that the only source of danger to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is Russia and no one else. Unfortunately, there was no timely and large-scale response to the terrorist attack on the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. And this may incite the Kremlin to commit new evil. It is the responsibility of everyone in the world to stop it, no one can stand aside, as radiation affects everyone.
For anyone who missed Zelensky’s subtle message: THE ONLY source of danger to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is RUSSIA AND NO ONE ELSE.
This gratuitous act of destructive vandalism would apparently give the US an immediate authority to use tactical nuclear warheads against targets in Russia, which could trigger the Russians to launch everything they’ve got at targets in the US. In other words, we’re at the precipice of a nuclear armageddon and the end of humanity as we know it. Far be it from me to insinuate that the statements from President Zelensky's, the Winston Churchill of our day, might be inaccurate, but I did hope that they were.
Luke Harding lands another bombshell!
My hopes were quickly dashed by a Tweet from none other than The Guardian's legendary reporter Luke Harding. In a testament to his courage, Harding didn't report from just anywhere - he actually went near the soon-to-be-blown-up power plant itself which bolsters his credibility enormously.
If you expected a nuclear blast, wouldn't you place yourself exactly where your life is most at risk (for no obvious benefit)? Well, that's just how brave these MI6 British media reporters are. Incidentally, this Luke Harding is the same Luke Harding who broke the riveting story about Paul Manafort meeting Julian Assange at the Ecuadorian embassy in London. Harding's reporting provided invaluable ammunition for the Russiagate scandal (there's them evil Russians again) and the only small problem with it was that the meetings between Manafort and Assange never actually took place.
What matters is winning, not the truth
But whatever - tomato, tomAHto... the indomitable editors at The Guardian refused to retract the story, issue a correction or apologize for it. We're living in the post-truth world after all - what matters is winning, not the truth, and winning is the one thing Russians are incorrigibly bad at. Today again, they are about to do the one thing that could snatch them a defeat out of the jaws of victory. Of all the nuclear power plants in Ukraine (there are four), they're about to blow up the one that is on the territory they control.
If it wasn't for the courageous and principled hand of the British agents in this whole mess, where would we be? And how on earth did their service to humanity earn them the nickname, "perfidious albion?"
We should dispense with the braindead medieval pomp and circumstance!
The British people are only beginning to awaken to all this, but the multi-generational brainwash and the staple diet of Russophobia are making it hard to accept that "we" might ever do such things or that the Russians wouldn't. One of the most effective means of manipulation is the very existence of the Crown. British MP Tony Benn explained this in saying that,
“Above all, the existence of a hereditary monarchy helps to prop up all the privilege and patronage that corrupts our society; that is why the Crown is seen as being of such importance to those who run the country, or enjoy the privileges it affords."
I recently came across a concrete example of exactly what Tony Benn said here. On 28 June this year, London Mayor Sadikh Khan and king Charles III officially switched on the "climate clock" which counts down the time to 2030, the estimated deadline to limiting global temperatures to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. Here's how one Brit commented on this event on Twitter:
"I'm a huge monarchist and see deep value in Constitutional monarchies, but stick to statecraft and civic matters not hot button activism. Still, God Save the King."
In other words, I'm against this and disagree, but still… I’ll use more words to affirm my allegiance and loyalty to my masters, than to voice my disagreement with them. And as for the "deep value," I look forward to someone actually quantifying that value. What a way to wave shiny objects at the people to hypnotize them into acquiescing to and paying for policies that are against their interest and that it is their better judgement to oppose.
Hey, look over there! The Russians are coming to get you! Russia bad! Rinse, repeat…

I say, Alex old bean, it's Perfidious Albion, if you don't mind! A phrase first coined by dear old artist and poet William Blake - so berated in his own time and called 'a dangerous lunatic' by his enemies. For Blake despised the ruling elite of the UK and all the mischief and harm they caused at home and abroad. (Just as I despise them today.. ) I'm so glad you have justly ridiculed Luke Harding, whose own perfidy towards Julian Assange tells you all you need to know about his integrity and who his real masters are. As you say, the security services are in no doubt about just what protecting 'British interests' actually means. A good quote from Tony Benn (an hereditary peer who gave up his peerage to serve as a Labour MP and represent the working classes). Benn knew exactly how privilege protected 'their own'. And Harding is nothing but a servant of that class.
It was kind of ominous the way that so many Westerners were willing to believe Russia were shelling Zaporizhzhia last year, whilst they were in occupation. Having got away with that one, hopefully Zelensky doesn't now up the ante.
