Extraordinary predictions from high places
Mao Zedong's pronouncement from 1971 turned out to be prophetic...
Vladimir Putin's confidant and former Prime Minister and President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev offered ten predictions for 2023 in a Twitter thread posted this week. Here they are, word for word:
Oil price will rise to $150 a barrel, and gas price will top $5.000 per 1.000 cubic meters
The UK will rejoin the EU
The EU will collapse after the UK’s return; Euro will drop out of use as the former EU currency
Poland and Hungary will occupy western regions of the formerly existing Ukraine
The Fourth Reich will be created, encompassing the territory of Germany and its satellites, i.e., Poland, the Baltic states, Czechia, Slovakia, the Kiev Republic, and other outcasts
War will break out between France and the Fourth Reich. Europe will be divided, Poland repartitioned in the process
Northern Ireland will separate from the UK and join the Republic of Ireland
Civil war will break out in the US, California and Texas becoming independent states as a result. Texas and Mexico will form an allied state. Elon Musk’ll win the presidential election in a number of states which, after the new Civil War’s end, will have been given to the GOP
All the largest stock markets and financial activity will leave the US and Europe and move to Asia
The Bretton Woods system of monetary management will collapse, leading to the IMF and World Bank crash. Euro and Dollar will stop circulating as the global reserve currencies. Digital fiat currencies will be actively used instead
Mr. Medvedev's thread reads like a psy-op trolling post, but from his perch as the vice-chairman of the Russian Security Council, he should be an exceptionally well briefed person, privy to information that's not available to the public. As strange as his predictions might sound, they should not be dismissed lightly.
Chairman Mao’s 1971 prediction
In 1971, another well informed man made an even more extraordinary prediction: "In another 50 years, China will be very strong. America will most likely be very envious and restless, but it doesn't dare attack China. It will research germ contamination instead. After it finishes with this unconscionable deed, it will self-destruct." That man was none other than Chairman Mao Zedong, and the quote also appeared on Twitter this week:
My first inclination was to dismiss this quote as a hoax, but a friend quickly followed up and reported that he, “just posted the quote in its original Chinese. Had to verify because it seemed too true to believe. Using machine translation on the Chinese text, it checks out.” Still, I wanted to make sure the machine translation was correct, I reached out to Matthew Ehret and he ran it by another expert who confirmed it, suggesting only that the last line (starting with 可 是 帝 国 主 义...), would be more accurately translated as, "after the imperialists finish with this unconscionable deed, they will self-destruct."
So, the imperialists will self-destruct, not necessarily the United States. Veteran journalist Martin Sieff then told me in a conversation yesterday [28 Dec. 2022] that he actually remembers the time when Chairman Mao would issue such pronouncements and confirmed that these were regularly and widely publicized in China at the time.
Beyond strange, but not necessarily wrong…
For the average consumer of media narratives, these things may seem beyond strange, but experience has taught me to keep an open mind. Somehow Mao’s prediction from 51 years ago turned out to be prophetic; somehow the Russian leadership knew to treat the Covid 19 pandemic as a geopolitical event and beat the western pharmaceutical giants to the punch with their Sputnik V vaccine, even though the western firms were moving at the speed of science.
With regards to Mr. Medvedev's predictions for 2023, a few of them should definitely be taken seriously. I believe his prediction about the US coming apart is wrong and was glad that Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reaffirmed once more that the Russian leadership understands the importance of their relationship with the US: “Given Russia & US special responsibility as two nuclear superpowers for the future of humankind, I believe good relations between our countries would be beneficial for everyone. However, due to Washington’s openly hostile actions, we cannot conduct business as usual”
Even though this has been scrubbed clean from the history curriculum, Russia has beene a close friend and ally of the United States during most of the latter’s history and played the decisive role in preserving the union during the US Civil War. The rift between the two nations began in the early 20th century as the agents of the British Empire infiltrated the institutions of American power, created the Federal Reserve system and co-opted the United States as the new host for the imperialists. But if Mao Zedong was right, their time is up and there will be a new rapprochement between the two natural allies.
