Probably a bit tricky to run UK as a democracy at the moment so they had to turn the cameras off. I'd say that there are many unknown nuclear warheads dotted around a particular country in the eastern Med that can easily be shipped to population centres in the west. I think there may be a different explanation. Cameras could record misdeeds of state actors and they can be used as evidence. I think that the apparatus is doing some illegal things - sandbagging, maybe some other rough police tactics and it has been decided (especially after the Chris Kaaba incident) to shut the cameras down and not record events on the ground. Probably a bit tricky to run UK as a democracy at the moment so they had to turn the cameras off. I think it is also a way of keeping our Mayor out of the loop - as he is mistrusted by key elements of the state apparatus.
What you say as far as the government hiding their actions of nefarious misdeeds is more along what I was thinking . Also the mobilized misplaced masses invading and otherwise wreaking havoc and mayhem upon the existing culture,,, well its an unsavory press, and quite difficult to sell on its face

I'm mostly pessimistic, but there are some reasons for hope. More recognize the best and quite simple solution, which is to welcome Russia into the polite society (sarcasm) of the West. They've made it clear they'd be happy to be allies rather than adversaries. There are more Western leaders and influencers amenable to this lately. If we can avoid Armageddon, it's at least remotely possible we can get there.

Some cameras have been off for ages - I have that on reliable authority - and was allegedly driven by cost. But given the sensitivity of security around Westminster it is odd. I put nothing past them. However, the new very accurate bunker buster has given them pause for thought I suspect. Parliament has its holidays from 19 December - may have some relevance.
